The US Armys
1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta is one of the US governments
principal units tasked with CT operations outside the United States (the
other being Naval Special Warfare Development
Group). Delta Force was created by US Army Colonel Charles Beckwith
in 1977 in direct response to numerous, well-publicized terrorist incidents
that occurred in the 1970s. From its inception, Delta was heavily influenced
by the British SAS, a direct philosophical result of Beckwiths exchange
tour with that unit. Delta has been known to conduct intelligence gathering
operations, security detail, drug interdiction, and behind enemy line missions.
Quite possibly made infamous for their failed Iranian embassy operations
under Carter and famous by their much publicised heroics in Somalia.
Delta troopers are also equipped with the most advanced weaponry and equipment available in the US special operations arsenal. A significant portion of their gear is highly customized and cannot be found anywhere but in Deltas lockers.
This impression is loosely based on a Delta loadout used in Panama: Woodland camo with Blackhawk DOAV vest and SpecOps daypack. Alta kneepads, Hatch camo elbow pads, ProTec helmet, NVG mount and rear mounted strobe, Bolle X500 tactical goggles, M4 with Aimpoint Comp XD, RIS, and ANPEQ, Danner Acadia boots, Blackhawk thigh holster.
