The Naval Special Warfare Development Group is responsible for US CT operations in a maritime environment. Its origins stem from the aftermath of the failed 1980 attempt to rescue American hostages at the Iranian Embassy. One of the world's elite maritime commando units, the US Navy SEALs are adept in conducting combat missions in different environments:SEa, Air, and Land. Their ability to operate effectively in small numbers, in and out of the water in a covert fashion sets Navy SEALs apart from many other special forces units.
Within the Naval Special Warfare Command is a SEAL team that is tasked to conduct special counter-terrorist missions. This covert unit, called SEAL Team Six or DevGroup, is comparable to the Army's Delta Force.
